Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate head women's basketball coach Tammy George has announced the early signings of Vondria Ritter and A'Lexxus Davis to National Letters of Intent beginning with the 2014-15 season.
Ritter is a 6-2 post player from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, S.C. Davis is a 6-2 center from Potter's House Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla.
"I am excited to welcome both Vondria and A'Lexxus to our Upstate basketball family," said George. "They will add depth to our frontcourt as we move forward. Both are, first and foremost, good kids who we have enjoyed getting to know along with their families. Each of them has experienced success at their respective high schools and we look forward to having them join our program."
Ritter has been a member of the varsity basketball team at O-W for the past five years. She was twice named to the All-Region Team in 2011-12 and 2012-13. Ritter earned T&D All-Area First Team honors last season after averaging a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds per game. In 2011-12, she was selected to the All-Rookie Team. Ritter is an Honor Student and member of the National Honors Society.
"I chose USC Upstate simply because when I visited the campus, met the team and coaches, I felt welcomed and at home," she said. "I am very excited and look forward to attending Upstate in the fall. I would like to thank all of my coaches and parents for pushing me to do my very best and work hard."
Davis has spent the last two years at Potter's House Christian Academy after transferring from Oakleaf High School. She is a two-year starter at Potter's House and a team captain. Last season she averaged 9.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game while being named the Top Rebounder of the Year and Most Improved Defensive Player. While at Oakleaf, Davis was a two-year starter, and team captain, for both the basketball and volleyball teams. She was part of the 2011-12 NSCAA National Championship Team and also three straight SIAA State Championship squads. Davis is Potter House's valedictorian as she holds a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, while serving as the school's Student Government President and a member of the National Honor Society.
"Everything was great and just felt like a perfect fit," she said. "I decided to commit a couple of weeks later because, honestly, I don't feel anywhere else could even compare. I am really looking forward to being a Spartan."
