Upstate Swept in Season Finale at North Florida

Jacksonville, Fla. – Lexi Gober collected her team-leading 14th double-double of the season Saturday afternoon, but the USC Upstate volleyball team fell to the North Florida Ospreys 3-0 (18-25, 16-25, 23-25) in its regular season finale from UNF Arena.

Upstate concludes its season at 15-15 overall and 3-11 in the A-Sun, while North Florida improves to 21-10 on the season and 7-7 in league play.

Gober finished the match with a team-high 22 assists and 14 digs, while Callie Yeargin and Shannon Weiss each had 10 digs. Emily Koelling contributed a team-best seven kills.

Courtney Miller led all players with 14 kills and was one of three Ospreys with double-digit kills. Abby Fesl dished out 27 assists and Ashley LaBorde had a game-high 26 digs.

The Spartans split the initial 16 points of the first set with UNF and tied the score 8-8 on Yeargin's kill. The Ospreys used an 11-4 run to go in front 19-12 on an attack error by Kayla Eversgerd. Upstate followed with a 6-2 run of its own to get to within three at 21-18 on a solo block by Koelling. Morgan Van Alstine recorded back-to-back kills to give North Florida the 25-18 win in set one.

After a service error by Ambre Desaulnay evened the score at 6-6 early in the second set, the Ospreys broke the set open with an 11-5 run to lead 17-11. The Spartans answered with three straight points to trim their deficit to 17-14 on Koelling's kill. Upstate was limited to two points after that as Erin Edwards captured the set for UNF with her kill, giving North Florida the 25-16 victory.

The Ospreys began the third set capturing eight of the first 11 points to go ahead 8-3 on Desaulnay's kill. The Spartans rallied with the next five to tie the set 8-8 with a combination block by Koelling and Gober. Upstate stayed within four the rest of the way and would equal the score again late when a kill by Koelling made it 19-19. North Florida held off the Spartans late to win 25-23, earning the 3-0 match victory, after Miller collected her 14th kill of the contest.
