Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by UNC Greensboro Saturday in the home opener from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
UNC Greensboro won the doubles point and went ahead after claiming matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. After winning at No. 3 by default, UNCG clinched the point at No. 2 when Stephanie Falcon and Blaine Boaz defeated Anna Zoske and Sharlee Deshmukh 8-3.
UNCG went ahead 2-0 after winning a singles point at No. 6 by default. Jamie Grinberg put UNCG ahead 3-0 following her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Deshmukh at No. 5. Corrine Blythe sealed the victory for UNC Greensboro with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Zoske at No. 3.
Isabel von Stryk won her third straight match when she bested Kayla Gammie 6-4, 6-7, 10-5 at No. 1, and Nina Roell captured her second consecutive win after downing Amy Ellis 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 4.
Upstate returns to the court Friday at 2:30 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Elon, N.C., to take on Elon.
