Upstate Falls at North Florida, 92-69, in A-Sun Quarterfinals

Jacksonville, Fla. – Dallas Moore scored a game-high 22 points to lead the top-seeded North Florida Ospreys to a 92-69 win over the eighth-seed USC Upstate men's basketball team Tuesday evening in the quarterfinals of the A-Sun Men's Basketball Championship inside UNF Arena.

Upstate's season comes to an end with a 10-22 overall record while North Florida improves to 22-10.

Mike Cunningham led three Spartans in double-figures with a team-high 17 points. Deion Holmes added 15 points, and Michael Buchanan contributed 11 and a team-best eight rebounds. Buchanan and Jure Span both dished out four assists.

Moore was one of five Ospreys to finish with at least 10 points along with Trent Mackey (20), Chris Davenport (20), Beau Beech (14) and Demarcus Daniels (12). Beech had a double-double with 10 rebounds and Moore tallied a game-high seven assists.

The teams went back-and-forth over the game's opening 4:35 and saw the score tied five times over that stretch. Holmes evened the score 10-10 with his layup at the 15:25 mark. After Moore's jumper gave UNF a two-point lead, Jacob Schulte answered with a layup to tie the game again at 12-12. The Ospreys then went on an 8-2 run to go in front 20-14 with 11:43 remaining on a layup from Moore.

Upstate stayed within an eight-point margin over the next six minutes until a three-pointer by Cunningham cut North Florida's lead to 30-25 with 5:53 to go. Davenport then scored six straight points for the Ospreys to give them their largest lead of the first half, 36-25, with 4:53 left. The Spartans responded by cutting the lead down to five, 37-32, when a layup by Holmes at the 3:29 mark capped a 7-1 run by Upstate.

Cunningham sent the Spartans into halftime down 47-40 following his layup with four seconds left before the break. North Florida led by as many as nine with 1:08 to go in the half before Upstate scored four of the final six points.

The Ospreys opened the second half on an 11-4 run over the first 3:27 to go ahead 58-44 after Moore's field goal. The Spartans got as close as 10 points twice with the last coming at the 10:25 mark when Cunningham hit a three putting the score at 70-60. A 10-0 run by UNF over nearly a two-minute stretch put it in front 85-64 following a three-pointer from Beech.

Upstate would only get to within an 18-point margin after that as a layup by Malik Moore made the score 87-69 with 3:10 remaining in the contest. The Ospreys took their largest lead of the game with 1:23 left when a free throw by Aaron Bodager put the final score at 92-69.

The Spartans finished the game shooting 47.4% (27-of-57) overall while North Florida was 56.5% (35-of-62) as a team.
