Clearwater, Fla. – Brittany Case provided the USC Upstate softball team its second straight walk off win as her single in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Spartans to a 3-2 win over the Army West Point Black Knights Sunday morning to conclude play at the Under Armour Showcase from the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.

Upstate improves to 23-3 on the season while Army West Point falls to 10-10 overall.

Holly McKinnon (13-1) came on in relief to earn the win after pitching 3.0 scoreless innings while giving up three hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Renee Poirier (0-5) took the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Spartan starter Amanda Storch went 4.0 innings on the mound and surrendered two runs on two hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Case led Upstate offensively with two hits, including the game-winner, and drove in one run along with Amy Szymanowski. Ashley Yoo posted two hits for the Black Knights and Maddie Kim added two RBI.

The Spartans struck first in the bottom of the second to lead 1-0 following an Army fielding error. Ansley Gilstrap drew a one-out walk in the inning and then stole second. The error allowed Gilstrap to score from second.

Kim manufactured the only two Army West Point runs in the top of the third as her two-run homer to left field put the Black Knights ahead 2-1. Yoo led off the inning with a single into left and would be sacrificed over to second by Nena Riccoboni.

Upstate trailed by one until the bottom of the sixth when Szymanowski came through with a two-out double to the right center field gap. Ryan Rector started the inning with a single back to Poirier. After Abbie Millete reached on a fielder's choice and was pinch run for by Lindsay O'Steen, Szymanowski tied the game on her double. O'Steen would score all the way from first base on the game-tying hit.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Megan Obier was hit by a pitch and advanced to third base on a bunt single by Kendsey Chappelear. The throw would hit off Chappelear's helmet allowing her to advance to second and Obier third. Case followed the next at-bat by placing her game-winning single just past the left fielder. Obier scored the winning run to give the Spartans their second straight walk off win of the tournament.

Upstate opens A-Sun play next weekend, Mar. 19-20, on the road at Lipscomb.
