Wofford Rallies to Defeat Spartans

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team won the final two singles matches to claim a 4-3 win over visiting USC Upstate on Wednesday.

Wofford improves to 5-2 while Upstate drops to 0-9.

Upstate took a 1-0 lead in the match as the Spartans won the doubles point. After Wofford claimed the number three doubles match, Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama defeated Lauren Reid and Samantha Russell 6-4 at the number two doubles position. Anna Zoske and Filippa Ericson won a hard-fought match at number one doubles, 7-6 (7-2) to clinch the point.

Wofford took a 2-1 lead in the match after wins at number six and number five singles. Zoske tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number one singles over Catherine Martin. Zarama was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Reid at number four singles to give Upstate a 3-2 lead. Wofford won the number three and number two singles matches by identical 6-2, 6-3 scores to claim the match.

Upstate travels to Appalachian State on Friday at 2 p.m.
