Spartanburg, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs claimed a 10-5 win over USC Upstate in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Harley Park.

Gardner-Webb improves to 12-14 while Upstate drops to 13-15

Scoring Breakdown

  • Top 1st – Gardner-Webb opened the game with three consecutive singles with a run scoring on a Corey Howard base hit. Upstate limited the damage to one run thanks to a double play and a strikeout.
  • Bottom 2nd – J.J. Shimko led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Drake Harris groundout. Following a Russell Schwertfeger single and a walk, Pat Raiff drove in two runs with a two-out double before scoring on a Hunter Gilbert single for a 4-1 Upstate lead.
  • Top 3rd – Paul Trick reached on a leadoff single and scored on a Howard single.
  • Top 4th – Chandler Redmond opened the inning with a single and scored to cut the Upstate lead to 4-3.
  • Top 5th – Redmond hit a two-run home run with two outs to give Gardner-Webb a 5-4 advantage.
  • Top 6th – Gardner-Webb plated two runs on an error and a Colin Thacker double.
  • Top 7th – Mason Fox drove in a run with a single while another run scored on a sacrifice fly.
  • Top 8th – The Runnin' Bulldogs scored a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • Bottom 9th – Raiff reached on a double with two outs followed by a Gilbert single and a walk to load the bases. Charlie Carpenter worked a bases-loaded walk to score Raiff.
