Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team dropped a 6-1 non-conference contest to Charleston Southern on Wednesday evening at Harley Park.
Charleston Southern improves to 7-15 while USC Upstate drops to 11-10-1.
Scoring Breakdown
- Top 1st – Kyle Vesnesky led off the game with a triple and scored on a Mike Sconzo two-out single.
- Top 2nd – Alex Andronica reached on a one-out single and advanced to second on a walk to Josh Litchfield. Andronica scored on a Vesnesky single while Litchfield scored on a sacrifice bunt.
- Top 3rd – Sconzo scored on a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 Charleston Southern lead.
- Bottom 3rd – Jeff Taylor reached on an infield single and reached second on a Zach Lea base hit. Taylor would score on a Charleston Southern error.
- Top 5th – Andronica drove in a pair of runs with a single.

- Andronica went 3-for-5 with three singles, a run scored and two RBI.
- Vesnesky went 2-for-5 with a single, triple, run scored and RBI.
- Sconzo, Ryan Risk, Derek Horton and Christian Maggio each had two hits.
- Eddie Hiott (1-0) earned the win as he struck out two batters in 1.0 innings.
- Taylor, Lea, Toran Shahidi, Andres Kim, Russell Schwertfeger and Chris Rodriguez each had one hit.
- Will Wheeler (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
- Charleston Southern left 12 runners on base while USC Upstate left 10 baserunners.
