Jacksonville, Fla. – Logan Morris and Brittany Case each homered and drove in three runs as the USC Upstate softball team opened its three-game series with the North Florida Ospreys on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory at the UNF Softball Complex.

The teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday but game two was postponed due to weather. The series concludes tomorrow with a doubleheader.

The Spartans improve to 27-13 on the season and 6-4 in conference play while the Ospreys fall to 20-21 overall and 0-7 in the league.

Scoring Breakdown

• Bottom 2^nd – Dominica Cocuzza gave North Florida an early 1-0 lead with her solo home run to center field.
• Top 3^rd – Case tied the game for USC Upstate at 1-1 with her RBI infield single. Kristen Wright scored on the base hit after reaching on a single to right field and then advanced to third on Morris' single.
• Top 5^th – Morris broke the game open for the Spartans, giving them a 4-1 lead after hitting a three-run home run to left center field. Wright and Karla Beasley both came home on the homer after Wright walked and Beasley reached on a throwing error.
• Top 7^th – USC Upstate extended its lead to 6-1 in its half of the seventh as Case belted a two-home homer to right field. Makenna Helton, pinch-running for Morris, scored on Case's home run. Morris reached two batters earlier with a walk.

Notables

• Christina Biggerstaff (13-8) earned the win with a complete game and allowed one run on just two hits, no walks and registered eight strikeouts.
• Morgan Blourne (5-6) took the loss giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits, four walks and five strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.
• Morris hit her fourth home run of the season and Case her second.
• Morris and Case both finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and one run scored.
• Wright tied both players offensively with two hits while scoring a team-high two runs.
• Kayla Hussey and Elisa Cecchetti each collected one hit.
• Cocuzza went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored for the Ospreys.
• The Spartans outhit North Florida 8-2.
