CLINTON, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team will have to wait a few more days to collect their first Big South win of the season as the Spartans fell 2-0 to Presbyterian on Wednesday night at Martin Stadium.
The loss breaks a two game winning streak for USC Upstate (2-5-3, 0-3-1) over the Presbyterian Bluehose (4-7-0, 3-1-0). The Bluehose struck early with an unassisted goal from Morgan Hutchison in the fifth minute of the contest. Hutchison ended the first half with a team high four shots and two shots on goal against the Spartans defense.
USC Upstate had a trio of opportunities in the opening half to tie the game at one.
Montanna Hill (Mount Airy, Md.) took a cross and headed a ball just inches past the goal post.
Emma Honis (Ocoee, Fla.) had a great opportunity at the top of the box but the ball sailed just left of the goal.
Stephanie Linton (Odessa, Fla.) had the lone shot on goal in the opening half of play for the Spartans. Linton battled through the contact for the ball and her header fell just short of the goal.
The Spartans had multiple opportunities to tie the game in the second half. Early in the half Hill ripped a shot that once again went just inches wide of the goal. With 18 minutes remaining in the game
Erin Wright headed the ball towards the net but it found the mitts of the Bluehose goalie.
Haylee Myrup (York, S.C.) came into to the game as the new Spartans goal keeper and Presbyterian immediately challenged the young goalie. Hutchison once again laced the ball passed a Spartan goalkeeper and the Bluehose increased their lead to two.
With seven minutes remaining in the match the Spartans had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard with a corner kick. Hill, once again was able to put a head on the ball but Presbyterian came away with the save to end the scoring threat. Time ran out before the Spartans were able to put another offensive possession together.

- Hill led the Spartans offense with a trio of shots and a shot on goal, Honis finished second on the team with a pair of shots in the contest.
- Hutchison led the Bluehose offense with six shots and three shots on target to go along with her two goals.
- The Spartans were outshot 13-9 overall and 7-4 in shots on goal.
- USC Upstate led both teams with five corner kicks and committed 12 fouls in the match.
- Presbyterian was whistled for 9 fouls and attempted just a single corner kick in the game.

- USC Upstate will be back at home this Saturday evening against Campbell University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at County University Soccer Stadium.
