Spartans Stunned in Double Overtime

Buies Creek, N.C-- The USC Upstate men's soccer team fell 1-0 in double-overtime to Campbell on Saturday night.

The Spartans have now lost a trio of games in the overtime period this season.

In the opening half of play, the Spartan defenders were under early pressure with an early shot by Humberto Chavez that was saved by Luca Bulfon. The pressure continued as the Camels shot on goal and hit the goal post. Despite the early pressure put on the Spartan defense, Bulfon and his defenders were able to stay composed and keep the score at 0-0.

The Spartan defenders made life easier for Luca Bulfon as the Spartan defenders were able to block numerous shots that the Camels directed towards goal. Despite the attacking effort from Campbell, the Spartans continued to make it difficult for the Campbell attackers.

Going into the half, the score was even at 0-0. The Spartans had two total shots and Campbell had 18. Bulfon was able to record one save and there was one yellow card issued out to USC Upstate's Javier Torres

After the halftime break, both teams were eager to come away with a conference win. In the 52nd minute of play, Pol Molness was able to dribble and have great shot that nearly went in but was saved by Campbell's goalkeeper Samuel Lechuga. The game began to get aggressive as both teams tried to put a goal away for their respective teams. In an attempt to get the ball, Aidan Hill received a yellow card for fouling a Campbell midfielder.

Shortly after the yellow was given, Campbell was rewarded a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Thibault Jacquel stepped up and shot but Bulfon was able to make an outstanding save to keep the score tied at 0-0. The game remained physical as Hill was given another yellow card which resulted in a red card and left the Spartans with only 10 men on the field. Despite being down one man, the Spartans were able to hold on and continue the game into overtime.

The first half of overtime, Campbell continued their attack as Mosses Mensah shot on goal, but Bulfon was there again to keep the game tied at 0-0. Going into the second half, the Camels were awarded an early corner kick that Alemu Miko-Mercer was able to capitalize on and win the game for the Camels.
