SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team defeated Charleston Southern 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon inside the Eddie and Ann Payne Arena.
USC Upstate hit .349 as a team and had four players reached double-digit kills in the contest for the first time in nearly a month.
Emily Russell led the Spartans attack with 17 kills and six assisted blocks in the match.
Courtney Coffy continued her career weekend with her first 11 kill game of her career on Saturday afternoon.
Mikenzie Young-Mullins and
Gloria Ikenegbu both contributed 10 kills in the match.
Mackenzie Marcum led the Spartan defense with 23 digs, while
Scout Hoffmeier and
Aliyah Shirley both recorded 20 assists in the contest. Russell, Ikenegbu and Briana Strobert all had six assisted blocks in the match to led the USC Upstate defense.
Brooke Monssen led the Charleston Southern attack with 17 kills in the match and Skylar Blackmon recorded 21 digs in the contest. Both Emma Minnick and Emilee Karelse registered 25 or more assists in the game.
The match was tied on 23 different occasions and the lead changed just four times over the course of the match. USC Upstate will have six days off to get ready for top ranked Winthrop next Friday night. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first serve in Rock Hill, S.C.
