Box Score 2 Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate junior Alyssa Oakes and senior Christina Biggerstaff were recognized by the Big South Conference on Monday as the teammates both received Big South Softball Weekly honors for their performances in games played February 18-24.
Oakes was named the Big South Player of the Week while Biggerstaff garnered Big South Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Oakes helped lead USC Upstate to wins in its first two games of the Wings Etc. Classic with two home runs, 10 RBI and hit .833 at the plate. She tallied two hits, two runs, a home run and a double to go with a career-high six RBI in a win over N.C. Central. The junior followed with a three-hit, four RBI performance with another home run and a double against Robert Morris.
Biggerstaff tallied her second no-hitter of the season, and third of her Spartan career, against Robert Morris in her only start of the week. The senior recorded 11 strikeouts in five innings for her third outing this year with double-digit strikeouts.
It is the fifth career Pitcher of the Week honor for Biggerstaff and first Player of the Week award for Oakes.
