On December 17, 2019, the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees, granted approval for the selling of alcoholic beverages at University of South Carolina Upstate athletic venues. USC Upstate, in partnership with concessionaire, Sodexo, will begin selling of beer and hard seltzers for athletic events beginning January 16, 2020 for the men's basketball game with Radford.

"This is an issue we've been studying and evaluating with our athletics staff, campus administration, fans and concessionaire partners, Sodexo, as well as monitoring best practices across the industry. We look forward to piloting these sales and offering this new amenity to our fans, while continuing to ensure fan safety and an enjoyable environment are at the forefront of all that we do on game day to promote a great fan experience at our events."
Upstate is moving forward with plans to sell alcoholic beverages inside the G. B. Hodge Center for basketball events. Inside the Hodge Center, beer and hard seltzers will be available at a point of sale separate from the current concession stand.
The below policies will be among those enforced:
- Valid ID is required for purchase. All guests must be 21 years of age to purchase alcoholic beverages.
- A limit of two drinks purchased at one time per legal ID
- Sales begin when doors open (60 minutes prior to tipoff)
- Alcohol sales will end at the following times
- Men's basketball: After the eight-minute media timeout in the second half
- Women's basketball: At the beginning of the fourth-quarter
USC Upstate's concessionaire partner, Sodexo, will be responsible for coordinating proper training of concession staff to ensure all sales are conducted in a safe and responsible manner.
