SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate men's basketball sophomore center
Nevin Zink scored 16-points in an 81-60 loss to Radford on Saturday afternoon.
USC Upstate (11-18, 6-10 BSC) got off to a slow start offensively against the No. 1 team in the Big South Conference on Saturday afternoon. Radford (19-9, 14-2 BSC) jumped out to a 10-3 run in the first five minutes of the game and never looked back. The Spartans began to chip away at the Highlanders lead and at the 9:56 mark of the half USC Upstate was back within four-points at 23-19.
Following a technical foul on Radford's Devin Hutchinson the Spartans trailed 28-25 with 7:38 remaining in the half. Then the Highlanders went on a 13-0 run to extend their lead, Radford went into the halftime intermission leading 40-30 over USC Upstate.
Radford came out strong in the opening five minutes of the second half and pushed their lead out to 19-points over the Spartans. Despite the Spartans best efforts they were never able to make it a single-digit score the rest of the game.
Notables:
Upstate: Nevin Zink led USC Upstate with 16-points in the game and
Brandon Martin contributed 11-points off the bench.
Cartier Jernigan had a solid all-around game with 7-points, 7-assists and 8-rebounds.
Radford: Carilik Jones led all scorers with 22-points in the match, followed by Donald Hicks with 12-points and Travis Fields Jr contributed 11-points. Devine Eke recorded a double-double with 11-points and 12-rebounds against USC Upstate.

The USC Upstate men's basketball team will have a few days to prepare for a Thursday night showdown with Winthrop. The Spartans will be celebrating senior night at the G.B. Hodge Center, fans are encouraged to wear black to the game. The game will also be shown on regional television in the Upstate area.
