Series History
This is the seventh all-time meeting between USC Upstate and Radford with the Highlanders holding a 5-1 advantage in the series. Radford took the first meeting of the season 57-41 in Spartanburg back on January 21. Brianna Lewis made her return to the court in that game, and Michaela Gibbons pulled down a season-high nine rebounds. Kirkwood led the scoring for the Spartans with 11 points in the loss. She also collected five rebounds and tied her season-high of two blocks. Anda Kuzmina tied a season-high five boards in that game.
Sydney Nunley led the Highlanders with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Khiana Johnson posted 12 points and Amele Ngwafang pulled down 10 boards.
Last time out
UPSTATE – USC Upstate fell to UNC Asheville, 53-45, Saturday afternoon on the road. The Spartans outshot the Bulldogs and Brianna Lewis and Kathryn Kirkwood both scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough to finish the job. Lewis posted a team-high 15 points and Kirkwood led the bench with 12 in the loss. Lewis also had eight assists while Gibbons posted three blocks as she and Herring each finished with six rebounds.
Radford – Radford fell in the waning moments to High Point on Saturday afternoon, 64-63. Ngwafang posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Johnson led with 16 points.
Ones to watch
UPSTATE – Riley Popplewell is closing in on 1,000 career points as the season is drawing to an end. The senior is Upstate's second leading scorer and is just 55 points shy of the milestone. She also leads the Spartans with 7.6 rebounds per game. Brianna Lewis leads the Spartans in scoring with 15.2 points per game.
Radford – Khiana Johnson is Radford's leading scorer with 11.9 points per game. Amele Ngwafang and Sydney Nunley both average a team-high 7.8 rebounds a game, which is tied for second-best in the Big South Conference. The Highlanders rank third in Big South scoring defense.
UP next for the Spartans
The Spartans return home on Saturday, February 29 against Gardner-Webb at 2:00 p.m. It's also senior day, and Upstate will honor its five seniors on the court prior to tipoff.
