Ones to Watch
Upstate – After the first week of competition, Alexis Mareko is tied for ninth in the Big South in hitting percentage (.333) and blocks (6). Mackenzie Marcum ranks third in the conference with 4.33 digs per set, and Kelly Wiedemann has a tied league-best five service aces. Sophomore Briana Strobert is getting some good swings and leads the Spartans with 13 kills while Bruna Avila leads with 24 assists.
Winthrop – Three Eagles have recorded a tied team-high 21 kills: Nikkia Benitez, Morgan Bossler, and Brookelynn Thomas. Benitez also leads the team with 34 digs, Bossler leads with five service aces, and Thomas has a team-high 10 blocks. Jana Owens is leading the Eagles with 46 assists.

The Spartans will host Gardner-Webb in their home opener Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. followed by match two of the back-to-back series on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
