Spartans Complete Comeback and Sweep Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C.  – The USC Upstate softball team scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to complete the 7-4 comeback victory and the series sweep over Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon at the Charleston Southern Softball Complex.
 
USC Upstate (11-4, 3-0 Big South) has now started 3-0 in conference play in back-to-back seasons. The Spartans are now 17-2 all-time against Charleston Southern and 12-2 at the Charleston Southern Softball Complex. Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.) led the Spartan offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Marisa Soterakis (Miramar, Fla.) finished with a team high two RBI's, while Celeste Delorenzo (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) each had two runs in the win.

Scoring Breakdown
 
Top 2nd: Celeste Delorenzo (Ormond Beach, Fla.) tripled to right field to start the inning and came around to score on a Marisa Soterakis (Miramar, Fla.) RBI bunt.
 
Bottom 2nd: Dominique Mannerino drew a one out walk and SeaEnna Satcher hit a two-run homerun to put the Buccaneers on top.
 
Top 5th: Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alexa Sanchez (Miami, Fla.). Lanox then advanced to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on an RBI single by Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.).
 
Bottom 6th: Ashley Meckley reached on a bunt single, Brooklyn Brewington then attempted a sacrifice bunt, but reached on a throwing error by the Spartan defense. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. A two-run double by Mannerino gave the Buccaneers the lead once again.
 
Top 7th: Lanoux doubled to center field to start the inning and one batter later, Price smoked a single up the middle of the infield to put a pair of runners on. Cooper recorded an RBI ground out to pull the Spartans within a run. Tiffany Domingue (York, S.C.) doubled to right center to tie the game at four, an RBI single by Peyton Darnell gave the Spartans the lead. Soterakis hit an RBI single and Delorenzo came around to score on a throwing error.  
 
Notables

Price went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Bre Cooper recorded an RBI knock and Tiffany Domingue finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Peyton Darnell went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Marisa Soterakis went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's.
Mallie Brown picked up the win in 3.0 innings of relief and struck out a team high three batters.
 
UP next for the Spartans
Due to COVID concerns within the Western Carolina softball program, the Spartans next game will now be on Wednesday, March 17th against South Carolina State at Cyrill Stadium.
