SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – For the second consecutive weekend, the USC Upstate softball team swept their Big South opponent, this time the Spartans defeated Presbyterian 8-0 on Sunday afternoon at Cyrill Stadium to improve to 6-0 in Big South competition.
 
USC Upstate (16-4, 6-0 Big South) got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first when they batted around the lineup and drove in four runs. The Spartans added a trio of runs in the bottom of the second inning and an RBI single by Peyton Darnell (Fort Mill, S.C.) in the bottom of the fourth secured the run rule victory for the Spartans. Darnell, Tiffany Domingue (York, S.C.) and Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) each had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI's in the game to lead the Spartan offense. Mallie Brown (Stockbridge, Ga.) picked up her eighth win of the season with a complete game shutout and six strikeouts.

Scoring Breakdown
 
Bottom 1^st: Bre Cooper (Massillon, Ohio) drew a walk to start the game and advanced to second on a passed ball. Cooper moved over to third after a Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.) infield single, who then stole second to move into scoring position. Domingue roped a two-run double to center field to break the scoreless tie. Darnell then reached on a throwing error and Dezi Williams came into the game to pinch run for the catcher. Williams stole second and on a throwing error from the centerfielder, Domingue was able to score from third. Lanoux then hit an RBI single up the middle to end the scoring for the Spartans in the first.   
 
Bottom 2^nd: With two outs in the bottom of the second Darnell roped an RBI single up the middle of the infield to score Price. Lanoux tripled to right field in the next at-bat to score Darnell. Lanoux scored on a double steal attempt.
 
Bottom 4^th: Domingue tripled to right field to start the inning and Darnell singled in the run to give the Spartans the run rule victory over the Blue Hose.
