ATHENS, Ga. – The USC Upstate softball team hung around with No. 20 Georgia on Wednesday evening at Jack Turner Stadium, but ultimately fell 4-1 to the Bulldogs.
USC Upstate (19-11) got off to a slow start in the first inning, and Georgia (27-8) took advantage with a four run first inning of action. In the top of the second inning, the Spartans were able to take advantage of a pair of fielding errors by the Bulldog offense. Following a 42-minute rain delay, the Spartans appeared to be in position to score once again after a wild pitch, but the Bulldogs were able to get out of the inning ahead 4-1.
Following the first inning of action, the Spartans pitching staff settled down and threw five-innings of shutout softball. The staff allowed just one hit the remainder of the game and freshman pitchers
Nyah Vogel and
Adison Yoder recorded a trio of strikeouts.
