GREENVILLE, S.C. – It was a tale of two games for the USC Upstate softball team on Wednesday evening as they split a pair of games against Furman University at Pepsi Stadium.
In the first game of the night the USC Upstate (17-9, 6-0 Big South) softball ended a four game road losing streak with an 8-4 extra innings win over Furman (9-16). The Spartans offense belted out a school record 20 hits and scored five of the eight runs in the final two innings of the contest against the Paladins.
Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.) and
Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) passed the Spartan offense with four hits each, while
Tiffany Domingue (York, S.C.) hit a pair of homeruns to end the game with four RBI's.
Adison Yoder (Newton, N.C.) pitched 7.0 innings and gave up just one earned run in relief.
In the second game of the evening, the Spartans fell 5-2 to Furman and only produced three total hits in the contest.
Bre Cooper (Massillon, Ohio) and Price were the only Spartans to record RBI knocks in the contest.
Nyah Vogel (Apopka, Fla.) was hit with the loss after 4.0 innings of work.
Game 1: USC Upstate 8, Furman 4
Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 1st: Natalie Morgan hit a two-run single down the left field line to score Emily Bartlett and Claire Ginder. Shelby Basso recorded an RBI sacrifice fly and the Paladins held a 3-0 advantage.
Top 4th: Peyton Darnell started the inning with a double to right center field and
Olivia Marshall came in to run for the catcher. Lanoux singled up the middle to score the first run of the game for the Spartans.
Top 5th: Price singled through the left side of the infield to start the inning and came around to score on the Domingue homerun to right center field.
Bottom 5th: A solo homerun from Claire Ginder gave the Paladins a 4-3 edge.
Top 7th: Back-to-back one out base knocks from
Celeste Delorenzo and Grigsby gave the Spartans a pair of runners in scoring position. After Grigsby was thrown out at home, Soterakis singled in the tying run for the Spartans.
Top 8th: A bunt single by Price moved Cooper over to third base to start the eighth inning. Cooper came around to score on an errant throw from the catcher trying to throw out Price at second base. Domingue homered for the second time in the contest and the Spartans held a three-run advantage. Soterakis ended the scoring for the Spartans with an RBI single to short.

Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 1st: A two-run single by Morgan put the Paladins on the board first in the second game of the double header.
Top 3rd: The first two batters reached to start the inning and moved in to scoring position on a ground out from
Madison Hill. Cooper scored Delorenzo from third with an RBI ground out and Price hit an RBI single to second base to score the second run.
Bottom 3rd: Bartlett doubled down the right field line with one out in the inning. Greico doubled to right center field to break up the tie.
Bottom 4th: A leadoff triple from Fleming setup an RBI single through the right side of the infield to give the Paladins a cushion.
Bottom 6th: Lykins singled to left field with one out in the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch. Ginder then singled in the run to end the scoring for Furman.
