SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate head women's basketball coach Becky Burke and her staff announced on Wednesday the signing of Nevaeh Caldwell as the final member of Burke's inaugural signing class at Upstate. Caldwell is a 5-7 guard from Charlotte, N.C. (Hopewell High School).
"I am thrilled to announce the final signing of our 2021 class, and for Nevaeh to join an exceptional group of incoming players," said Coach Burke. "Nevaeh is a dynamic playmaker, from both a scoring and facilitating standpoint. She plays at an extremely high level on both ends of the floor, and brings exceptional athleticism to our team at the guard position. Nevaeh comes from a true basketball family, and her toughness and competitive nature reflect that. I am very excited for the opportunity for Nevaeh to make an immediate impact on our program."
As a senior, Caldwell averaged 18.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. She earned Third Team All-District and I-Meck All-Conference honors, and was just announced as a Charlotte All Observer First-Team member.
Caldwell amassed 820 points and 269 rebounds in her high school career. She also dished out 177 assists and tallied 164 steals.
She set a school record with 34 points in a single game on Feb. 26, 2021 against Mooresville, and notched a triple-double on Feb. 19, 2019 against West Charlotte with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
In just two years and 60 games played in her career at Hopewell, Caldwell saw her name go down highly in the record books. She ranks sixth all-time in 3-pointers made, assists, and steals. Caldwell also ranks 12 in all-time points and 14th in all-time rebounds, with the second-most rebounds as a guard.
