Event PreviewÂ
USC Upstate cross country looks to post a strong performance at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regionals, where eight men and two women will compete. Â
Upstate men's cross country will have Caleb Bayne, Nigel dos Santos, Gabe Herron, Jared Keklak, Chris Post, Sam Shimanskiy, Monroe Thompkins, and Noah White running in Spartan uniforms while the women will look to Heaven Allen and Allie Leavitt for a strong finish. Â
Most recently, Upstate had impressive finishes at the Big South Cross Country Championships. The women posted a fourth place finish overall with Allen coming in at 14th with Leavitt finishing just behind her at 16th. The men finished fifth overall with White leading the pack with a 15th place finish followed by Monroe Thompkins I 21st and Caleb Bayne in 35th. Â
Last year during Regionals, the men brought home Upstate's third-highest finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional in program history, with a 23rd place finish overall out of 30 competing teams. Nigel dos Santos, Jared Keklak, and Allie Leavitt will all race in back-to-back regionals.Â
Head coach Carson Blackwelder is excited for the teams to compete in regionals saying, "This will be a good opportunity for our runners to see where they stack up against some of the best athletes in the country."Â Â
