ASHEVILLE, N.C. – It was a fun night in Asheville as a Spartan scored their first goal of the season, another recorded his first minutes of the season and USC Upstate secured their first winning season since 2020.
The Spartan bench erupted in applause in the 38
th minute of the 1-0 match vs UNC Asheville. It wasn't because of another goal on the field, but because senior
Filippo Censini was walking out to see his first real game action since last year's regular season finale vs Presbyterian. While Censini didn't light up the box score and he'll almost certainly have to knock off the rust as the Spartans move forward, his presence on the field can't be understated.
Alvaro Martin saw his first minutes since playing against Wofford earlier this season. He didn't waste a moment either, taking a deflected
Carson Hickok pass and tapping it into the in the middle of a scrum. It was Martin's third career goal and his first game-winner as the Spartans took down the Bulldogs, 2-1 in Asheville.
