SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The 2022 Cross Country season is in the books and both the USC Upstate men's and women's teams are celebrating successful seasons.
Upstate's women's team earned top 10 finishes in four of their five team events, with two individual top 10 finishes being earned by junior Heaven Allen in the Louisville Classic and another being earned by graduate student Allie Leavitt during the Upstate Invite. Grace Miller and Elise Wilcher were the only two Spartans to start and finish all five 5k events on the season, with Wilcher setting a new personal record during the Upstate Invite. Both Heaven Allen and Allie Leavitt finished all of their 5K races under 19:30.
The fastest single time for a Spartan on the women's team belonged to Heaven Allen, whose 5k time of 18:20.3 at the Big South championships set a personal record and earned her a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.
Adalie Harrison saw the greatest improvement in her times this season, with a 2:55 difference between her first race and her best finish at the Upstate Invite.
Leavitt and Allen ran the 6k at the Southeast regionals to close out the season, setting personal records in the event.
Upstate's men's team enjoyed a successful season as well, with senior Noah White leading the pack. As a team, the Spartans finished all of their five 8K events within the top 10. Four of those five were top five finishes, the most impressive being a 5th place finish of 45 teams at the Louisville Classic and a 3rd place finish at the Eye Opener event to start the season.
There were 14 personal records set by the men's team, with the fastest time on the year belonging to Noah White, who finished the Louisville Classic in 25:20.4. Noah finished every 8K race within the top 20, with four of the five races being Top 15 finishes and two of those four being top 10.
The greatest improvement for a male cross country runner goes to Jared Keklak who shaved off 2:44 from his first race to his best time of the season at the Upstate Invite.
The Upstate Invite and the Louisville Classic treated the Spartans well as Chris Post, Noah White, Gabe Herron, Caleb Bayne, Sam Shimankiy, Mason Parrish, and Ethan Taylor set personal bests at those events.
A final run at the Southeast Regional saw all seven Spartans setting new 10k personal bests. In keeping with his impressive individual season, Noah White led the way there with a time of 32:05.
