ARDEN, N.C. – Looking to defend the team's victory at the Terrier Intercollegiate—the team's most recent event—USC Upstate women's golf did just that, winning back-to-back tournaments for the first time since late in the 2020-21 season with a victory at the French Broad Collegiate Invite Monday afternoon.
Facing a scoring format the team will see in the Championship Four of the Big South Women's Golf Championship, Upstate didn't shy away from match play or its No. 1 overall seeding. The Spartans swept the four-team event that included No. 2 seed and host UNC Asheville, No. 3 seed Gardner-Webb, and No. 4 seed Tennessee Tech.
Upstate opened the event downing No. 4 Tennessee Tech Sunday, advancing to the championship match with a 4-1-0 victory. Redshirt junior
Preaw Nontarux (3&1), redshirt senior
Beem Pabsimma (4&3), junior
Suwarin Yord-in (4&3), and sophomore
Elin Wahlgren (1 up) each took their matches.
In the championship match, the Spartans battled host and Big South rival No. 2 seed UNC Asheville with the match being decided on the final hole. With Nontarux (6&4) and Pabsimma (6&5) winning their matches, it was Yord-in who secured the match as she won her pairing by going 1 up on the final hole.
