
One Conference Champion, Five All-Conference, Two All-Academic, and Three New School Records to Conclude the Big South Indoor Track & Field Conference Championships

Winston-Salem, N.C.- The Track & Field team had a competitive run during the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships as Tony Aguste left a Conference Champion, five athletes were named to the All-Conference team, two athletes were named to the All-Academic team and three school records were broken. Â
The men's team finished 5th out of nine teams competing, scoring the most points during an Indoor Big South Championship in school history (66). Â Tony Auguste was the Conference Champion in Weight Throw (66-00.50) while setting a new school record and placing 7th in Shot Put (49-07.00). Auguste earned his spot on the All-Conference team along with Anthony Carswell, ZoRyan Hendricks, Channing Ferguson, and Bryce Ravenell. Â
The women finished with 19 points and nine top ten finishes. Allie Leavitt placed 5th place in the mile (5:04.99) which is the 3rd fastest in school history. Amber Ferguson placed fourth in the High Jump (5-05.00). Bracie Vaughn not set a new school record in the 60m prelims (8.56) but also finished sixth overall for the 60m (8.60).Â
USC Upstate senior distance runner Jonathan Loy has been named to the 2021-22 Big South Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Team while sophomore distance runner Heaven Allen was name to the 2021-22 Big South Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Team as announced by the league on Friday. The award is part of the league's announcement of this season's Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Teams and is voted on by the Big South's sports information directors. Â
Loy has set a personal best in the 5000m twice this season so far, the first time being at the South Carolina Challenge and the second being the Darius Dixon Invitational. The senior boasts a 3.84 GPA while majoring in secondary education with a focus on social studies. Last season, Loy was recognized for his work in the classroom and was named to the 2020-21 Big South Conference President's Honor Roll. Â Â
Allen set a personal best this season in the mile at the Darius Dixon Invitational. The sophomore holds a 3.686 GPA while majoring in exercise & sport science focusing on pre-physical therapy. Last season, Allen was recognized for her work in the classroom and was named to the 2020-21 Big South Conference President's Honor Roll. Â
The Big South Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Team consists of one student-athlete from each institution that meets the criteria of having completed at least one academic year at the institution, maintains at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average and is of sophomore standing (academically and athletically). The team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year award are selected by the Big South Conference Sports Information Directors. Â
