RADFORD, Va. – On the road for the second time in as many weekends to open Big South Conference play and seeing its series altered by Mother Nature, USC Upstate baseball split its series-opening doubleheader Friday against Radford.
The Spartans struck first in both ends of the twin bill, scoring in each game's first inning. In game one, the Highlanders battled back to take a 3-1 victory with Upstate continuing to put runs on the board in game two, leading to a 9-1 victory.
At the plate, freshman designated hitter
Noah Sullivan and senior rightfielder
Noah Myers led the Spartans, hitting .600 (3-for-5) and .571 (4-for-7), respectively. Sullivan also paced Upstate in slugging percentage (.800) and on-base percentage (.778), adding four free bases (two walks and two HBP) to his three hits. Myers led the Spartans with three stolen bases, each coming in game two, as Upstate was successful in 5-of-6 stolen base attempts.

Scoring Summary (Game One)
- T1: Taking advantage of a pair of free bases, a walk to Noah Myers and a hit-by-pitch by Devin Buckner, Upstate took an early lead as Noah Sullivan singled into left to bring home Myers.
- B4: Fighting back to take the lead, Radford loaded the bases in the fourth before Tanner Barrs gave the Highlanders the lead with a two-run single to left.
- B7: Adding an insurance run and his third RBI of the game, Barrs homered to right to extend Radford's lead.

Scoring Summary (Game Two)
- T1: Taking the scoring reigns early in game two, Upstate struck for three runs in the first to stake an advantage. Cameron MacIntosh plated the first run with a double to right before Noah Rabon and Jeff Taylor added RBI with a groundout and single into center.
- B5: Radford picked up its lone tally of the game off a wild pitch with Brendan Bagwell coming in to score.
- T6: Answering Radford's run, the Spartans hung three more runs on the board in the sixth with Buckner opening the scoring with a single to center. Buckner immediately stole second with a second run coming in as the throw to second ricocheted off the shortstop's glove and allowed Myers to score. Buckner later came into score on an infield single by MacIntosh.
- T8: Wrapping the game's scoring, Upstate again plated three runs in the eighth. The first run came in off an RBI groundout from Buckner before Rabon plated two with a single to center.
Notable
- Tossing 7.0 innings in each of their starts, Jacob Curry and Austin Morgan authored career-long starts Friday afternoon. In his start, Curry struck out a career-high five batters while Morgan punched out eight hitters, following up his nine-strikeout effort from last weekend.
- Swiping three bags in game two, Noah Myers posted a career-high in the category. His three steals marked the most in a game since teammate Jack Hennessy stole three bags against Western Kentucky on Feb. 28, 2020.
- In game two, Cameron MacIntosh secured his second two-double game of the season. Through two Big South series, he has collected a two-double game in each series.\
