SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Building upon its momentum from its second consecutive double-digit scoring game in the series opener against North Carolina A&T with a third straight game scoring 10 or more runs, USC Upstate baseball plated 15 runs in a 15-6 series-clinching victory Saturday afternoon.
Leading to their 15 runs, the Spartans collected their 14
th and 15
th five-plus run innings with five spots in the third and sixth frames while also adding three runs in the eighth. The Aggies got on the board first with two runs in the third before Upstate answered with five in the home half. North Carolina A&T tied the game with three runs in the fourth before Upstate scored in three consecutive innings (one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and five in the sixth.) to build its lead with the Aggies scratching one in the seventh before the Spartans extended the advantage with three in the eighth.
Four Spartans finished the afternoon with multi-RBI games, combining to drive in 13 of the Spartans' 15 runs. Senior catcher
Devin Buckner led the group, tying his career high with five runs batted in behind a two-run triple and a three-run homer. Joining with multi-RBI games were senior leftfielder
Noah Myers (two), sophomore second baseman
Easton Cullison (three), and redshirt junior rightfielder
Adam Grob (three).

Scoring Summary
- T3: Jumping on the board first, North Carolina A&T posted two runs in the third. Alec Seaton started the scoring with a solo homer before Camden Jackson pushed across the second run.
- B3: Sending nine men to the plate and seeing the first four reach base, Upstate fashioned its first five-spot of the afternoon to answer the Aggies' two runs. Noah Myers started the scoring with an RBI single before Troy Hamilton pushed across another with a sac fly. The biggest hit of the inning came as Easton Cullison hit a two-run double down the rightfield line with Grant Sherrod following up with an RBI double of his own to complete the five-run inning.
- T4: Starting their scoring the same way in the fourth as they did in the third. Bret Mersman hit a solo homer before a sacrifice fly and wild pitch led to two more runs and a 5-all deadlock.
- B4: Following back-to-back walks to open the inning, Myers drove home his second run of the game with a sac fly to left with Jack Hennessy racing into score and break the tie for the final time.
- B5: Reaching with a leadoff double and advancing to third on a wild pitch, Hamilton came into score as Adam Grob singled through the left side.
- B6: Stepping up with the bases loaded, Cullison secured his third RBI as he reached on a fielder's choice as Noah Sullivan came into score. Grob tallied his second and third runs batted in with a single to left-center with Cullison and Sherrod coming into score. Tacking on the final two runs, Buckner drove in two as he cleared the bases with a triple to right-center.
- T7: North Carolina A&T scored its final run as Upstate traded an out for a run with a groundout to short off the bat of Canyon Brown.
- B8: Upping his RBI total to a career-high-tying five, Buckner drove a three-run homer over the wall in left, his sixth of the season.
Notable
- Adding 15 runs to the scoreboard Saturday, Upstate has scored double-digit runs in three straight games. The streak marks the first three-game streak since May 7-8, 2021, when the Spartans scored 10-plus runs in all three games of its series with High Point.
- With five runs driven in over his final two at-bats Saturday, Devin Buckner tied his career-high for single-game runs batted in. He equaled his five-RBI game from March 6, 2021, against Radford.
- Going 2-for-6 against North Carolina A&T, Noah Sullivan pushed his team-long reached base streak to 24 games.
