Jack Hennessy Tallies Multi-Hit Game; Noah Myers Homers, But Baseball Drops Series-Opener with Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Opening a non-conference, split-site series and playing at John Henry Moss Stadium for the second time this season, USC Upstate baseball fell in the series opener 10-3 Friday night against Gardner-Webb.
 
Opening the scoring in the game, senior leftfielder Noah Myers hit his fourth home run of the season, giving Upstate a homer in five straight games (12 total homers). Following the Spartans' first run of the game, Gardner-Webb scored 10 unanswered runs, plating two in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth, five in the fifth, and one in the seventh. Upstate put forth a late rally attempt in the ninth, plating two runs to cap the game's scoring.
 
Myer's fourth homer of the year highlighted the Spartans at the plate with redshirt junior centerfielder Jack Hennessy collecting Upstate's lone multi-hit game, his ninth of the season. As a pinch-hitter in the ninth, freshman Jace Rinehart collected a hit in his lone at-bat.

  • T1: Stepping to the plate as the second batter of the game, Noah Myers launched a ball over the wall in right-center to put the Spartans on top in the first inning behind his fourth homer of the year and the team's 12th over the past five games.

  • Hitting his fourth homer of the year in the first inning, Noah Myers secured Upstate's sixth first-inning home run of the season. The longball also extended the Spartans' homer streak to five games, homering 12 times during the span.
