The Spartans never played like they were afraid of the Clemson Tigers. It was a tough and physical match from the start, leading to a handful of fouls by both teams. Clemson produced more offensively, and the defending national champs were able to outlast the scrappy Spartans by a score of 2 – 0

How it Happened
15' – The Tigers find a gap in Upstate's defense and strike first, taking a 1-0 lead
69' – The second goal of the match would come well into the second half as a miscommunication by the Spartans put goalkeeper Luca Bulfon in a tough spot. Clemson took the 2-0 lead to the end of the match.
 
Notable
-Play was physical on both sides as there were a combined 23 fouls and 7 yellow cards administered
-Upstate's starting lineup consisted of 4 players who didn't start the season opener vs Coastal Carolina
-Luca Bulfon allowed only 2 goals after facing a barrage of 19 shots against Clemson.
-The only two non-goal keepers for Upstate credited to go the full 90 were Julian Fernandez and Kasper Jorgensen
 
UP Next for the Spartans
Upstate has a bit of a breather before heading to Columbia next Tuesday to take on South Carolina, a team they beat last year 1-0.
