CLEMSON, S.C. – UPsets don't happen everyday
The Spartans never played like they were afraid of the Clemson Tigers. It was a tough and physical match from the start, leading to a handful of fouls by both teams. Clemson produced more offensively, and the defending national champs were able to outlast the scrappy Spartans by a score of 2 – 0
Game Information
Score: Upstate 0 | Clemson 2
Records: Upstate (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Big South) | Clemson (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC)
Location: Historic Riggs Field | Clemson S.C.
How it Happened
15' – The Tigers find a gap in Upstate's defense and strike first, taking a 1-0 lead
69' – The second goal of the match would come well into the second half as a miscommunication by the Spartans put goalkeeper
Luca Bulfon in a tough spot. Clemson took the 2-0 lead to the end of the match.
Notable
-Play was physical on both sides as there were a combined 23 fouls and 7 yellow cards administered
-Upstate's starting lineup consisted of 4 players who didn't start the season opener vs Coastal Carolina
-
Luca Bulfon allowed only 2 goals after facing a barrage of 19 shots against Clemson.
-The only two non-goal keepers for Upstate credited to go the full 90 were
Julian Fernandez and Kasper Jorgensen
