CHARLESTON, S.C. – USC Upstate fell 3-0 to The Citadel in its first road game of the season on Friday afternoon. Upstate's record shifts to 1-2-2 overall on the season. The Spartans will once again depart from Spartanburg to head to Greenville, S.C. to play Furman on Thursday.
The first 45 proved to be a battle for both the Spartans and the Bulldogs with the first shots of the game coming within the first six minutes of the match. Despite the end-line to end-line competition, the Bulldogs found the net first in the 35th minute of play. Upstate came out eager to retaliate from the Bulldogs' first-half goal and held The Citadel scoreless for 26 minutes of play. The Citadel was able to get a second goal off a Spartan defensive breakdown and eventually the third goal in the 73rd minute off a high shot.
