Men's Soccer to Take On College of Charleston in Midweek Showdown

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The USC Upstate Spartans are hitting the final stretch of the 2023 season as they head to the beach to take on the College of Charleston Tuesday night.  

Tuesday's MatchUP 

October 17, 2023 | 7:00 p.m.

USC Upstate (4-7-2, 1-3-1 Big South) at College of Charleston (4-4-5, 2-2-2 CAA) 

How They Stack UP 

USC Upstate (4-7-2, 1-3-1 Big South) at College of Charleston (4-4-5, 2-2-2 CAA) with three common opponents between the two teams (Coastal Carolina, North Florida, Furman). The Cougars are 1-0-2 in those matches with a 2-0 win against Coastal and 1-1 ties against North Florida and Furman. The Spartans are 1-2-0 in those same matches with a 1-0 win against North Florida and a 1-0 loss to Coastal to go with a 2-0 loss to Furman.  

Series 

The Spartans and Cougars have only met twice before but are playing for the third season in a row. The first matchup between the two teams resulted in a 0-0 tie but Upstate picked up the first win of the series last year in a 2-1 match with Jeremy Montero notching the first goal of the series.

Players to Watch 

Dzenan Cerimagic and Cooper Jennings both picked up Big South weekly awards for their performances against Longwood, with Cerimagic notching his third goal of the season and Jennings denying nine goals in the match. Braiden Hall picked up his team-leading fourth goal of the season and will look to continue his streak.  

Peter Thomas is coming off a brace for the Cougars in a 3-2 win over William & Mary. He currently leads CoC with six goals and has three goals and an assist in his last two matches. In net, Eric Wnorowski has started the last five matches, picking up 19 saves in 450:00 minutes.  

Last Match Out 

The Spartans are coming into Tuesday's match after picking up a critical 2-0 win against Longwood. As a team, the Spartans have taken 15+ shots in their last three matches, putting seven on goal in all three as well.  

CoC is coming off a 3-2 CAA win over William & Mary, but they were outshot 18-7 in the match.
