Men's Soccer Falls to College of Charleston for First TIme as DI Opponents

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The USC Upstate Spartans attempted a rally late but ultimately fell short by a score of 5-2 to College of Charleston Tuesday night.  

The Spartans entered the final stretch of the match trailing 4-0 before Braiden Hall flashed the fancy footwork to bury a shot in the back of the net. Only five minutes later and Hall would find the back of the net yet again thanks to assists from Jimmy James and Dzenan Cerimagic. Hall is now tied at the top of the Big South with six goals on the season.

How it Happened 

5' - The Cougars picked up the first goal of the match early in the first, capitalizing on their first shot on goal of the night 

31' - CoC would double their lead here to take a 2-0 lead into the half. The home team would lead the Spartans 12-5 in shots 

53' - Braiden Hall takes a penalty kick after Jeremy Montero is taken down in the box, but the CoC keeper protects the net 

63' - College of Charleston finds the back of the net again to take a 3-0 lead 

72' - And the Cougars would score again to hold a 4-0 lead in the match 

74' - Braiden Hall makes magic happen in front of the net to notch both his and the Spartan's first goal of the night 

79' - And only a few minutes later, Hall would score again to earn his first career brace 

89' - The home team finds another goal in the twilight of the match 

Notables 

  • Braiden Hall had his first career brace, picking up two goals over a five-minute stretch. He is now tied for first in the Big South for goals with six 

  • Hall would lead the team with four shots, all of which were on goal. Jimmy James, Dzenan Cerimagic, and Anthony Cox would be the only other Spartans to have more than one shot, picking up two apiece 

  • Noah Kump played his first career full match, picking up six saves in the action 

  • The Spartans picked up 16 shots in the match and are now on a four-game streak of 15+. They have also taken exactly seven shots on goal in those four matches as well.
