Upstate Comes Up Short Against Winthrop in Rock Hill on Sunday Afternoon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate women's basketball came up short against Winthrop on Sunday night with a 56-52 finish in Rock Hill, S.C. Isabella Geraci led the Spartans in scoring this weekend with 19 points on Sunday and 23 points on Saturday. Nyla Walker and Rebekah Gordon also contributed nine points each to the Spartans' 52 points.  

Upstate started strong keeping the game within two points to finish the first quarter. Isabella Geraci racked up 15 points in the first half along with four rebounds and one assist. Nyla Walker also scored five points helping the Spartans lead 27-18. Upstate and Winthrop took the same number of field goal attempts in the first half (25), but the Spartans showed more accuracy going 10-25 compared to the Eagles 6-25. In addition, Upstate went 5-11 for three-pointers and 2-2 for free throws while Winthrop went 4-12 for three-pointers and 2-2 for free throws.  

The second half the Spartans were led by Rebekah Gordon with seven points while Geraci and Walker had four each. Upstate went 8-24 for field goals, 3-6 for three-pointers, and 7-12 for free throws while Winthrop went 12-28 for field goals, 4-8 for three-pointers, and 10-13 for free throws.

  • Tonight was Geraci's 11th game scoring in double figures. 

  • Geraci once again leads the Spartans in scoring 252 points after the 19 she scored today.  

  • Geraci tied her season high for field goal attempts (7) for the second time this season (Radford 1/4/23). 

  • AC Markham set a new high for assists with six. 

  • Upstate tied its high for blocked shots (4) for the eighth time tonight against Winthrop (Presbyterian, Campbell, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, Charleston-Southern, Queens, Western Carolina)
