SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate women's basketball finished its final weekend home game falling 83-51 to the Panthers of High Point University. Zora Fray-Chinn led the Spartans in scoring with 12-points, followed by Rebekah Gordon who scored 10 points.
The first five minutes of the game consisted of back and forth scoring with the Spartans scoring 10 points compared to High Points 13. High Point was able to go on a run late in the quarter, forcing the Spartans to trail with the score sitting 30-16. AC Markham led the charge through the first quarter with four points while six other Spartans got on the board. Upstate went 58.3% from the field in the first (7-12).
Both teams were quick to post points to start the second quarter, but the game fell silent for roughly three minutes until the Panthers made it to the basket before the media timeout. Upstate found some momentum in the final two minutes of the quarter to make the game 49-24 going into the halftime break. Gordon, Markham, and J. Levine all found a way to score points in the second while Fray-Chinn led in rebounds (3).
Coming out of the break, Upstate was able to get to the basket early, scoring five points in the first few minutes of the quarter. The Panthers continued to post points including a late 10-point run that was interrupted by the media timeout. Gordon capitalized on the short break scoring four points to get the Spartans going again. Fray-Chinn scored five points to keep Upstate's offense going, while Gordon and J. Levine had four apiece. Isabella Geraci and Markham led in rebounds with three each.
Upstate continued its efforts to stay in the game through the fourth quarter, as both the Spartans and the Panthers scored 12 points in the final quarter. The only scoring run of the fourth quarter came when the Panthers made three pairs of free throws. Cali Levine and Fray-Chinn led the team in its final efforts with three points. Upstate went 55.6% from the field (5-9) to close out the game.

First Quarter:

Both teams went basket for basket in the first six minutes of play as the teams went into the media timeout with the visiting Panthers taking the lead 19-12.

Coming out of the media timeout, Upstate outscored High Point 5-4 to make the game 23-16.

The quarter finished with a seven-point run to make the game 30-16 with the Spartans trailing by 14 points.
Second Quarter:

High Point scored first with a layup but Upstate was quick to respond with two made free throws.

The Panthers capitalized on one free throw to make the game 33-18.

Both teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes before the Panthers sunk a three pointer.

Following the media timeout, High Point went on a 10-point run to make the game 46-18.

Upstate was able to find the board and add four to its total to make the game 46-22.

In the final minute of the half Upstate tallied two final points along with High Points final three sending the teams into the break with the score 49-24.
Third Quarter:

Upstate outscored High Point (5-4) the first two minutes of the second half to make the game 53-29.

The Spartans continued to find the basket the next two minutes, outscoring the Panthers (5-2) with just over six minutes left in the quarter (55-34).

High Point went on a 10-point run which was interrupted by the media time out with four minutes left in the third quarter (65-34).
Fourth Quarter:

The final quarter started with three points for Upstate and one point for High Point before neither team scored for the next two and a half minutes.

High Point broke the dry streak first as Upstate followed with two points, to make the game 74-44 with 5:45 left in the game.

The Panthers then had three pairs of made free throws to add another six points to their total (80-44).

Gordon responded with a layup, followed by a three from Fray-Chinn making the game 80-49 with just over four minutes remaining.

Both teams posted another three points to finish the game 83-51.
Notable

This was Gordon's 13th game scoring in double-figures.

Gordon has scored in double-figures in six of Upstate's last seven games (Longwood, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, UNC Asheville, Campbell, High Point).

Zora Fray-Chinn had her fifth game scoring in double-figures this season.

Fray-Chinn also set a new season-high for minutes played (33) surpassing her previous season-high of 28 set against Winthrop (2/12/23).

Upstate will finish the regular season schedule with Presbyterian at home on Wednesday night and Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs on Saturday afternoon.
