Spartanburg, S.C. - USC Upstate is riding a six-game winning streak to start the 2023 season after going undefeated in both the Upstate Classic and the Spartan Classic. Upstate beat Bucknell (8-0; 5-4) and Maine (8-0) in the Upstate Classic and then downed George Mason (7-0), UMES (11-0), and Holy Cross (9-3) in the Spartan Classic the following weekend. After just six games, the Spartans have racked up 92 total bases, 50 runs, 59 hits, 42 RBI, 30 stolen bases, nine home runs, and six doubles. In the circle for Upstate, returning pitcher Alyssa Kelly sits with 18.2 innings pitched, 18 strikeouts, and a 1.12 ERA. Both Alyssa Kelly and Maddie Drerup have three wins under their belts while Olivia Hall has also recorded two strikeouts as a relief pitcher. 

 
Players to Watch:     

USC Upstate (6-0):     

Tiffany Domingue has had an impressive start to the 2023 season, accumulating 10 runs, eight hits, eight RBI, four stolen bases, three home runs, and one double. Denver Lauer also played exceptionally well in the Spartan Classic this past weekend with five hits, four RBI, two runs, two doubles, one home run, two stolen bases and one putout on the weekend, finishing with a .556 batting average, .556 on base percentage, and a 1.111 slugging percentage.   

Queens (5-2):  

Queens most recently played in the Winthrop Eagles Classic and finished with a 4-1 record. The Royals started the tournament Thursday with a 9-2 win over Winthrop followed by an 8-0 loss to the University of Nevada. Friday brought a 7-6 win over Marist College before two back-to-back wins over North Carolina A&T on Saturday and Sunday (3-2; 11-0). Kasidi Staley leads the Royals with a .445 batting average as a result of three runs, five hits, three RBI, and five total bases. As far as runs go, Kayla Smith (6), Gerlea Patton (5), and Lindsey DeRoeck (4) sit in the top three on the team. Haley Hmiel, Kayla Smith, and Lindsey DeRoeck all sit with one home run. Autumn Courtney leads the Royals pitchers with three wins and 33 strikeouts along with a 2.82 ERA.
