BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – USC Upstate women's basketball finished out the regular season with a final road game against Gardner-Webb which resulted in a 83-59 loss for the Spartans. Rebekah Gordon led the team with 16 points while Isabella Geraci also contributed 13 points to the Spartans' total.
Upstate went points-for-points with Gardner-Webb for the first three minutes of the game, before the Runnin' Bulldogs made some distance between themselves and the Spartans. The Spartans kept the game within 10 points to finish the first quarter. Gordon led the first quarter with four points while Geraci and Cali Levine had three each. Gordon also led in rebounds with four as Trinity Johnson recorded three.
The Spartans continued to try to battle back and brought the game within seven to start the second quarter. Geraci pushed the team's offense with six points in the second quarter while Upstate's defense held the conference leading Runnin' Bulldogs to only 10 points in the second quarter. Gordon, Jeni Levine, Johnson, Geraci, and Zora Fray-Chinn had two rebounds apiece in the second quarter as well.
In the third quarter Upstate found itself trailing by as much as 20 despite continuously getting to the basket. Gordon scored six points to lead the Spartans offense through the third quarter; Geraci contributed four points to the Spartans 16 in the third quarter. Markham had a game high three assists in the third quarter and Jeni Levine led the quarter in rebounds (2). The Spartans went 100% for free throws and outshot Gardner-Webb in the third quarter.
Despite trailing going into the final quarter, Upstate remained hungry to score. The Spartans scored a game high 21 points to finish the game, with 12 of those points coming from Gordon (6) and J. Levine (6). Both Upstate and Gardner-Webb went 66.7% from the field while Upstate showed more accuracy from the three-point arc (80.0%-60.0%).
