SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On a blustery day at Cleveland S. Harley Park, USC Upstate baseball didn't let the wind snuff its offense as the Spartans tied a program record for runs scored as they scored early and often in a 25-10 midweek victory over The Citadel Tuesday.
Setting the Division I era (2007-pres.) record for runs with 25 Tuesday, the Spartans collected 23 hits, including 10 extra-base hits, securing the third 20-plus run game and 20-plus hit game under head coach
Mike McGuire. The 23 hits rank as the third-most hits in a single game in program history and tie for second most in the D1 era (2007-pres.)
Leading the way, sophomore third baseman
Cole Caruso drove home a career-high five runs as he was one of 11 Spartans to collect an RBI. His biggest hit came in the sixth inning as he raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, the first inside-the-park homer for Upstate since redshirt junior leftfielder
Noah Rabon on Feb. 25, 2022, versus Manhattan.
