SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The USC Upstate track and field team is heading to Rock Hill, S.C. for the second time this season for the Big South Outdoor Championships with plenty of momentum considering their performances during the Charlotte Invitational and the USC Open.
There are currently seven Spartans within the top three in their respective events across the Big South, with Brianna Clayton (200M), Rachel Davis (hammer throw) and Channing Ferguson (long jump and high jump) holding the top spot in their events.
In addition, another 29 Spartans find themselves in the top ten of their events heading into the outdoor championships.
Event Preview
While the Spartans were unable to bring home individual hardware during the Outdoor Championships last season, ZoRyan Hendricks established new conference, facility, meet and school records in the 100M hurdles with a blazing fast time of 13.49s.
Winthrop's facilities have treated the Spartans well this season. During the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational in March, the Spartans took four event wins against a strong field of competition, setting two school records along the way. Rachel Davis and Kaleb Sok set school records in the discus and the javelin throw while Channing and Brooke Ferguson took the top spots in their respective high jumps. Brooke added another top-ranked finish in the 100m hurdles while Brianna Clayton took the 200m.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday's Meet
The Big South Outdoor Championships will take place over the course of three days, with prelims taking place during the first two days of competition and finals taking place Friday, May 12.
Competition will begin in the afternoon for the Spartans on all three days, with the men's hammer throw getting going at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday.
