Spartans fall 1-0 to Coastal Carolina After Hard Fought 90 Minutes

CONWAY, S.C. -- After a hard-fought 90 minutes, the USC Upstate men's soccer team fell on the road to Coastal Carolina by a score of 1-0.

The first 44 minutes of the match were even as both teams took five shots apiece but it was the Chanticleers who broke through in the 45th minute with a goal from Evan Howard, who snuck by the Spartan defense.

Not to be deterred, the Spartans rallied in the second half and added ten shots to their total, finishing with 15 (5 sog) but none were able to find their way into the net while Cooper Jennings picked up his second straight match of 5+ saves.

Braiden Hall led the Spartan's offensive efforts on the night as he took five of the 15 shots, putting two of them on net. Jeremy Montero recorded a scoring opportunity for the third match in a row and picked up four shots of his own. Julian Fernandez and Carson Hickok both took two shots while Jimmy James and Luke Halkett finished with one each.
