SPARTANBURG, S. C. – Upstate Women's Soccer was back at County University Soccer Stadium this evening for the I-26 rivalry match-up against UNC Asheville. The Spartans outshot the Bulldogs 12 to 5. Upstate won 2-0, which marks their third shutout win this season.
UNC Asheville fired off a quick shot just two minutes in. Upstate would respond five minutes later with a goal from
Nya Baccelli off a cross from
Dara Russo. The Spartans continued to attack, putting up six shots before the half, keeping the Bulldogs to just one. Out of the halftime break, each team would trade shots until the 74th minute, when
Alexa Martinos headed the ball into the back of the net off a dime from
Catarina Dantas.
Nya Baccelli led in shots with three, followed by
Margret Edda Bjarnadottir and
Dara Russo who added two shots and a shot on goal apiece.
Alexa Martinos ended the night with two shots, both being aimed on target.
Meghan Groah returned in goal for the Spartans, making one save, earning the shutout victory.
