Volleyball Closes Out Big South Weekend Sweep, Downing Presbyterian in Four Sets Sunday

CLINTON, S.C. – Facing a non-traditional weekend of competition and competing on a Sunday for the first time this season, USC Upstate volleyball finished off its first Big South Conference weekend sweep since 2021, building off its five-set victory Friday with a four-set triumph over Presbyterian.

Seeing the weekend's second match open similarly to the first—including dropping the second set 25-19—the Spartans wasted little time in ditching the script from Friday's match by dispatching of the Blue Hose in sets three and four to break the 1-1 deadlock and take the match. Leading to the team's victory, Upstate reached both 10.0 total team blocks and 10 service aces in the same match for the first time this season, accomplishing the feat for the first time since Sep. 16, 2023, versus North Florida.

How It Happened
Breaking a stretch of three consecutive matches heading to a fifth set, Upstate rode its momentum from Friday night's match, turning it into a pair of convincing set victories before outlasting Presbyterian in a tightly contested fourth set for the win.

For the second straight match, the Spartans saw the trio of fifth-year senior outside hitter Ali Jansen, junior right-side hitter Savannah Page, and graduate student outside hitter Allison Palmi reach double-figure kills. After recording her most kills in a Spartan uniform versus Charleston Southern, Jansen followed up with a season-high 17 kills, fashioning her total behind a team-best .310 hitting efficiency.

Posting her fourth straight match with 13 or more kills, Page concluded the afternoon with 14 kills and a .231 hitting efficiency while Palmi closed out the trio with 10 kills, hitting .280 on the afternoon.

Pacing the Spartans' offense to a .283 team hitting efficiency, freshman setter Kamyla Vega David passed out 42 assists, surpassing the 40-assist plateau for the fourth consecutive match. She supplemented her assist total with 15 digs, capturing her 13th double-double of the season. Page joined Vega David with a double-double—her seventh career and first since 2022—collecting 10 digs.

Joining Page and Vega David with double-figure digs, redshirt senior defensive specialist Caroline Cleveland and senior libero Julia Gladhill scooped up 16 and 12 digs, respectively. Leading Upstate in service, Cleveland landed a career-high four service aces with Gladhill and junior middle blocker Ady O'Grady joining Cleveland with multiple winners, totaling two each.

At the net, junior middle blocker Alona Clinansmith and O'Grady led the Spartans with five total blocks, each tallying one solo block and four block assists. Vega David added four total blocks and Page three total blocks, complementing their double-doubles.

Up Next for the Spartans
Wrapping up a four-match road swing, Upstate heads back on the road next weekend for a pair of matches. The Spartans travel to Radford next Friday before closing the trip at High Point with match times slated for 6 p.m. and 2 p.m. ET, respectively.
