CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Upstate Women's soccer made the trip to Chapel Hill for their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, facing #8 North Carolina. The historic season came to a close with a final score of 8-0.
The Spartans held the Tar Heels scoreless through almost 20 minutes of play.
Nya Baccelli took the first shot for Upstate, aiming at the top left of the goal.
Dara Russo played the full 90 minutes of the match, also putting up a shot aimed on target.
Emily Rangel,
Hailey Sapinoro, and
Catarina Dantas all played the full 90 minutes along the backline. Goalkeeper
Meghan Groah made eight saves on the night, setting a new season-high.
Tonight's match capped off a historic season for Upstate, which included winning the Big South regular season title and the tournament title. Multiple players wrote their names in the Upstate record book, including
Dara Russo and
Margret Edda Bjarnadottir.
