First Meeting This Season
In the season's first meeting between Upstate and Charleston Southern, redshirt junior guard
Trae Broadnax recorded a career-high 23 points to lead a group of four double-figure scoring Spartans in a road battle with the Buccaneers. In a game that proved a tale of two halves, Upstate shot greater than 60 percent from the field in the first half to hold a lead at the break before Charleston Southern in the second half posted a field goal percentage of 60-plus percent to hold of the Spartans in a 77-70 decision.
Players to Watch
USC Upstate: Posting back-to-back games scoring 18 points and shooting greater than 50.0 percent from the field and beyond the arc while averaging 37.5 minutes per game, Broadnax earned his first career conference weekly award selection as the Big South Conference named him the league's Player of the Week Monday afternoon. Adding to his scoring total against Gardner-Webb, he passed out three assists, pushing him to 100 on the season, making him the sixth Spartan in the D1 era (2007-pres.) with 100 or more assists in a single season.
Charleston Southern: Averaging 14.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, junior forward Taje' Kelly ranks as the Buccaneers' second-leading scorer and leading rebounder entering Wednesday's game. He's posted eight double-doubles on the season, a total that leads the Big South, as he's also scored in double-figures on 22 occasions and pulled in double-digit rebounds in nine games. He enters Wednesday's game scoring in double-figures in 11 of his past 12 games.
