SPARTANBURG, S.C. - USC Upstate softball started the week strong with a late 2-0 win over Wofford in the first ever meeting between the Spartans and the Terriers on Wednesday night.
Despite a slow start to the midweek clash, Upstate was able to walk away with its fifth win of the season after a 2-0 finish. After five scoreless innings, Alanna Deal was able give the Spartans' the go-ahead run after a Terrier error in the left field allowed her to come home while Celeste Delorenzo reached third. Delorenzo came home following a groundout from Cassie Norris to give Upstate a two-run lead going into the Terriers' last chance to come back. Sierra Maness made her fifth start of the season and had five strikeouts for her fifth complete game. Lex Difato claimed the lone stolen base of the game between both teams. Amie Johnson had the second multi-hit game of her career after she had two hits tonight against Wofford following her two hits last weekend against Mount St. Mary's.
