SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After earning itself into the win column Wednesday, USC Upstate baseball continues its season-opening seven-game homestand as it hosts the OneSpartanburg, Inc. Baseball Classic for the third consecutive season. This season's iteration of the event features Upstate hosting Quinnipiac, Canisius, and Saint Joseph's.

Players to Watch
USC Upstate: Hitting a pair of homers Wednesday versus Western Carolina, junior leftfielder Jace Rinehart notched his second career multi-homer game, becoming the third Spartan in the Division I era (2007-pres.) to record multiple multi-homer games in his career. His effort against the Catamounts also saw him tie his career high for RBI as he registered four Wednesday. He enters the weekend sporting a .263 batting average with three of his five hits going for extra bases.
 
Quinnipiac: Culminating the opening weekend of his collegiate career, freshman infielder Kyle Garbowski earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors after hitting .333 in a three-game set at Liberty. He recorded a hit in each of the three games in the series with the Flames, including a three-run shot—his first collegiate homer—in game three.
 
Canisius: Setting the tone for the Golden Griffins' offense in their lone game last week against Saint Joseph's, graduate student outfielder Mike DeStefano recorded a four-hit effort on opening day. He leads Canisius in batting average entering the weekend as last weekend's series was affected by weather.
 
Saint Joseph's: Going 2-for-5 with five runs batted in, senior outfielder Ryan Picollo—son of Kansas City Royals general manager J.J. Picollo—paced the Hawks in a 6-5 walk-off victory on opening day against Canisius. His two hits left the ballpark as he collected a multi-homer game, the first of his career.

Coming off the OneSpartanburg, Inc. Baseball Classic, the Spartans hit the road for the first time during the 2024 campaign as it heads to Clemson Tuesday. The meeting marks the first of three total midweek meetings between Upstate and the Tigers, one of two to be played at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. ET.
