Baseball Surpasses Century Mark for Team Homers, Slugging Four in a 13-6 Victory Over Georgia State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Closing out its midweek slate as it heads into the final weekend of the regular season, USC Upstate baseball downed Georgia State 13-6 in the team's final home game of the year at Cleveland S. Harley Park, ending the program's home slate with 22 wins for the third consecutive season.

The Spartans jumped out to an early advantage as it homered in three consecutive innings, including going back-to-back in the third as they eclipsed the century mark in team home runs Tuesday afternoon. Junior leftfielder Jace Rinehart hit Upstate's 100th homer of the year with his 15th of the season while redshirt senior first baseman Grant Sherrod (15th), redshirt sophomore second baseman Jake Armsey (4th), and redshirt senior centerfielder Daniel Gernon (5th) each slugged long balls.

Armsey paced the Upstate offense with a career-high-tying three RBI with Gernon, Rinehart, and Sherrod each driving home two to collect multi-RBI efforts. Redshirt senior shortstop Troy Hamilton tied a career-high with four hits, one of four Spartans with multiple hits, with freshman third baseman Vance Sheahan just behind with three hits.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Mathieu Curtis struck out six over 6.1 innings of work before passing things along to junior righty Trent Hodgdon who struck out three over the final 2.2 innings. Hodgdon's 2.2 innings of work marked a career-long outing.

The first run crossed on a double play with the bases loaded before a wild pitch led to the second. The final tallies came in behind a two-run homer to center from Grant Sherrod.
