CJ Parmer Named Athletics Academic Advisor

SPARTANBURG, SC – USC Upstate Athletics is thrilled to announce the hiring of CJ Parmer as the new Athletics Academic Advisor. Parmer joins the Spartan family with deep experience in student-athlete development, academics and leadership programming.
CJ Parmer comes to "The Hub City" from the University of Alabama, where he served as the Assistant Director of Leadership Programming. Parmer administered all leadership programming across campus, engaging with student groups, classrooms, athletic teams, and community partners. He also advised the Alabama Habitat and Miracle Programs, both of which were vital to the Crimson Tide's off-field success.
Before his tenure at Alabama, Parmer was the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development at Mississippi State University.  He oversaw all aspects of community service, community programming, and campus collaborations for student-athletes there. His previous experience also includes serving as a graduate assistant in student-athlete services at Georgia Southern University and as a Student-Athlete Success Services Assistant Advisor at Louisiana Tech Athletics.

Sarah Gildersleeve Jones, Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Enrichment & SWA, expressed her enthusiasm about Parmer's addition to the team. "I am thrilled to welcome CJ to the Student-Athlete Enrichment team. He stood out through the interview process as having a passion for not only working with student-athletes but helping them realize their full potential both on and off the field. He comes to us with a diverse array of work experiences that will enable him to hit the ground running with developing new and unique ways to engage our student-athletes. I look forward to partnering with CJ to bring a new level of support to our student-athletes!"
Parmer received his undergraduate degree in Sports Leadership from Louisiana State University and his M.Ed in Higher Education from Georgia Southern.
