JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The USC Upstate women's soccer team fell for the first time this season after a 2-0 finish in Jersey City, N.J. Thursday afternoon against St. Peter's University.
Upstate's second game of the season got off to a rough start as St. Peter's University found the net in the 15th minute of play off a corner kick from the near side. The Spartans trailed by two after the Peacocks were able to capitalize on a corner kick following a foul in the box. Despite outshooting the Peacocks 9-6 in the first half, the Spartans continued to trail through the remainder of the first half and into the halftime break. The Spartans were successful in fending off the Peacock's offense in the second half and allowed only three shots while recording 11 of their own. Similar to the first game of the season against Queens, Meghan Groah shared time in the net with Gerber. Groah was able to make two saves in her time on the field. Paige Armstrong led the Spartans' offense after the full 90 minutes with four shots while Catarina Dantas was just behind her with three shots.
